The Citizen Watch Company creates some of the classic watches of our time.

The Citizen watch company began in 1918 as the Hokosha Watch Research Institute. Their first pocket watch was released in 1924, and their name officially became Citizen in 1930, a name chosen because they wanted a name "close to the hearts of people everywhere". They released their first wristwatch in 1931, and today, Citizen is the largest manufacturer of watches in the world, a distinction they have held every year since 1986. Citizen watches are in great demand, being hailed as one of the classic watches of our time. Citizen created Japan's first watch with a calendar as well as the first solar analog quartz watch. Today, their Eco Drive series is one of the most popular watches in the world.

The Eco Drive watch recharges its battery from solar energy absorbed through solar panels in the face dial. The Eco Drive never needs new batteries, as long as it is regularly exposed to natural or artificial light. Light exposure builds up battery stores, allowing the watch to continue to function even if left in darkness, for up to five years on some models. This watch also has many power saving functions to save battery life, including the ability to delay second hand movement whenever it is too dark for the watch to be fully powered. Then, when the watch is exposed to light again, the second hand catches up.

Eco Drive watches come in sport models as well as classic dress models for men and women. There is even a professional diving model of the Eco Drive. One of the most popular Eco Drive watches is the Disney collection, featuring watches with Mickey Mouse on the face for men, women and children.
