Seiko Watches :: Pioneers from the Kinetic to Seiko Diving Watches

feature 1

Seiko began making watches in 1881 under the name K. Hattorri and Company. It also began making clocks in 1892 using the name Seikosha. Under the Seikosha name, they began manufacturing watches in 1895, and by 1913, had produced Japan's first wristwatch. Today, Seiko watches are among the most sought after in the world, because of their constant research and innovation. Seiko produced Japan's first self-winding watch, and the world's first commercially available quartz watch. They are also responsible for the world's first ultra-accurate twin quartz watch, which has less than five seconds deviation per year, and the Thermic range, a watch that is powered by the body heat produced by the wearer.

The Seiko Kinetic, perhaps their most ingenious innovation, is powered by human movement. This watch has the ability to charge its battery by movements made by the wearer's wrist, so that it need never be changed. They also produce the Seiko diving watches, one of the most popular and reliable watches for diving in the world.

Seiko Pioneered the Diving Watch

Seiko entered the diving watch market early on, offering a model as far back as 1965, when the demand for these watches was relatively small. Their forethought was to their advantage, however, as the sport of diving significantly increased in popularity during the 1970s. In 1975, Seiko introduced the world's first titanium dive watch. This watch was also anti-magnetic, and highly shock proof, as well as being water resistant to 600 meters, a first for Seiko.

Today, Seiko offers a wide range of watches for divers, with prices beginning as low as around $150. Most are 21 jewel, self-winding, with English and Spanish calendars and low battery warning systems They also offer a professional series of dive watches, that are water resistant to 1000 meters. These watches are, of course, much more expensive, but they offer the water resistance and other features required by professional divers. Whether you are an occasional hobby diver, or a professional, Seiko can offer a diving watch to meet your needs.
